Climate change with global warming has been observed to have impacted on and will continue to affect the rainfall pattern of different parts of the world, Nigeria not excluded.

This said unpredictability in rainfall and drought patterns was visible in Nigeria as the country witnessed its first rainfall of 2024 on 3rd January in both Lagos and Oyo states; what was regarded as the earliest rainfall since 2018.

Reacting to this development in an interview session with our correspondent Olayemi Oladiran, a meteorologist, Damilare Obembe highlighted the climatic factors that contributed to the early rainfall.

While commenting on the impact on this early rainfall on Nigeria’s agriculture and economy, Obembe advised farmers to be calculative in their adaptation to the perceived change in order to make the best of it.

However, it would be recall that the first rainfall of the year caused flooding in some communities in Lagos and Ondo states. Reacting to this, an environmentalist, Isaiah Etteh, highlighted some measures that should be implemented to avoid flood in Cross River.
