RAMADAN KAREEM

Nigeria Muslims have joined their compatriots worldwide in the Ramadan Season as the Sultan of Sokoto, who also doubles as the religious head of all Muslims in Nigeria, Sa'ad Abubakar yesterday declared today as the first day of the month of Ramadan.

The declaration by the Musim Head followed the sighting of the moon – a tradition which always precede the religious exercise.

SPARKLING NEWS report that Ramadan, in Islam, is the ninth month of the Muslim calendar and the holy month of fasting, which begins and ends with the appearance of the crescent moon.

Speaking on the Ramadan season in a chat with our Correspondent, a Muslim Scholar, El-hareeby Usman Odetola explained that Ramadan in Islam is a significance month different from all other months, as it is mandatory for all healthy Muslims to fast in the month.

“Ramadan is a sacred and blessed month for Muslims worldwide, both white and black race. It is a time for spiritual growth, self-reflection and fostering a balanced lifestyle for all Muslims brothers and sisters all over the globe. It is also believed that this is month that the Holy Quran (Our Guide) was sent to the great Prophet Mohammed (S.A.W) as a guardian for men and women, a declaration of direction and a means of salvation.”

Odetola added that there is a special grace that flows within this month as all good deeds are doubled, thereby helping all faithful stewards to discover the human in them.

The Muslims Scholar urged all Muslims to ensure they fast, pray and recite the Holy Quran in this season, noting that it helps “awaken the spiritual potentials” in them.

Sheik Odetola further urged all Muslim faithful to ensure they remain holy; cease the opportunities the season present and offer prayers for Nigeria especially in this difficult season.

“I will love to tell all our Muslim brothers and sisters to please use this month of Ramadan to pray for Nigeria, our economic status, for their families, friends and themselves.”

Governor Bassey Otu has urged all Muslims to use this period of Ramadan to pray fervently against insecurity and economic hardship facing the country, and for a more united Nigeria.

This is as the governor advocated for peaceful coexistence, religious tolerance, stressing that desired growth and development can only come in a peaceful country, free from fear and suspicion.

In a press release by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Nsa Gil, Governor Otu assured that his government is doing everything possible to provide good governance with multiple opportunities to the citizens, adding that all hands must be on deck to collectively develop the state irrespective of religion, tribes and ethnic differences.
